Don’t hesitate! My classes are great for everyone, whether you are a beginner or experienced. I am a hands on instructor with several years of experience creating and teaching art.

I am teaching classes this fall at the Guilford Art Center and in the evening for Hamden Adult Education.

Portrait and Figure Drawing

Ever want to draw someone’s portrait, but were unable to figure out where to start? In this class, you will learn the guidelines for creating a successfully executed human portrait. The first weeks of class will cover portrait proportions, measurements, and shading, as well as creating natural looking hair using a variety of pencils and shading techniques. Later, learn the basics of drawing the human figure using various techniques of measurements, shapes and postures. Fashion a figure in active and inactive stances from photo references while considering basic bone and muscle structure. We will have a live figure for one class. Handouts will be provided. Beginners and intermediates welcome. Instructor will provide photos for the portrait. Student provided photos need instructor approval. Class critiques. Beginner/Intermediate, Teens/Adults. Painting With Soft Pastels

Pastels offer it all: rich color, direct mark making, control, a forgiving process for correcting, and immediate gratification! The class starts with an explanation of what to look for in materials. You’ll get a feel for how pastels work with a simple color reference. You’ll learn the difference between soft, medium and hard pastels, the various surfaces available, the best practices for working with the medium, the various underpainting techniques, and how to protect your finished work. Beginners and intermediates welcome. Teens/Adults. Demonstrations, one-on-one attention and class critiques. A materials list will be provided prior to class. Discover the Beauty of Painting

Explore the vibrant colors, textures, and timeless beauty of oil and acrylic paints. Learn about values, color mixing, texture, edges and how to select a good composition. Instructor will cover the materials used, including paint, brushes, surfaces, and medium. Instructor will demonstrate a variety of painting techniques and will provide individual and class instruction and informative handouts for each topic. Bring sharp 8” x 10” or larger printed photo references or use one provided by instructor (no electronic references). Class critiques and one-on-one instruction. Beginner/Intermediate, Teens/Adults.
