Painting en plein air in the middle of a field of sunflowers*
My style is inspired by twentieth century art that is loosely painted with hidden precision, including works by Sargent, Sorolla, de Lazlo, Boldini, and by modern artists including Schmid, Handell, Guzik, Demers, and Liberace. I draw my inspirations, as they did, from early twentieth architecture, the art deco and Greek classical styles of urban buildings, weather worn barns and open pastures of the country farms, and rocky and sandy beaches lined with classic New England cottages. I prepare my own canvases, and paint en plein air, on location almost exclusively. Painting outside, in the midst of nature, is an enjoyable and hypnotic experience.
